Sixth Form groupDecisions facing you

In a fast-changing world, the decisions you make at 16-plus have become increasingly complicated and ever more important.  It is crucial that, as far as possible, you make the right choice at this stage, to enable you to lay the foundation for Higher Education and/or for future employment.  Our aim is to provide each student with the information and guidance that you require at this vital time and then to devise with you a programme which best suits your individual abilities and ambitions.

Why study at Therfield Sixth Form?

Examination Results
Our A level pass rate last summer was 99% which bears comparison with all other state schools in Surrey and indeed with most in the private sector as well.
Breadth of opportunities
There are possibilities of undertaking work experience or community service, the opportunity to participate in Sport, Music or Drama and the chance to take responsibility and demonstrate leadership in a whole school context.
Therfield School - a Specialist Sports College
Therfield became a Specialist Sports college in September 2005.  Students entering the Sixth Form will benefit immensely form the increased resourcing that the specialism will bring regardless of the subject that they decide to take.  The core themes of the programme are to develop leadership skills in students, to support all departments in raising attainment and to become a centre of excellence in Physical Education, Sport and our specialism second subject, Modern Foreign Languages.
Pastoral Care
One of the major strengths of post-16 education at Therfield is our pastoral system led the Head of Sixth Form and the two Heads of Year.  The tutors take primary responsibility for monitoring the progress of each student in her / his tutorial group.  In addition, we offer all students a comprehensive system of careers and Higher Education advice and counselling.
Student Life
The life of the Sixth Form is not all work; the Common Room offers a place to relax, listen to music and spend time with friends.  Sixth Form students organise parties, discos, theatre visits etc.  Much of the social life is organised by the Sixth Form Committee who, in addition, are responsible for expressing the views of students and for working with the Sixth Form Team to continue, where necessary, to improve the overall quality of Sixth Form life.
Welcoming to all
Many Therfield Year Eleven students choose to stay on for the Sixth Form because they see the advantage of being taught by staff that already know them in an environment familiar to them.  We also welcome into the Sixth Form a growing number of students from other schools.  The friendly atmosphere makes this transfer easy and newcomers rapidly feel at home.
