Key Stage 4
GCSE Music
From September 2009 students will follow the AQA GCSE Music Syllabus.
Students taking GCSE Music should be competent on at least one instrument and be committed to the extra-curricular musical life of the school. Students are assessed every half term on their performing ability through solo assessments, ensemble activities, concerts and recitals.
They work towards completing two compositions for assessment through set tasks based on Areas of Study which include the Western Classical Tradition, World Music, and Popular Music (including musicals, film music and R ‘n’ B).
Listening to music is an integral part of all lessons and students are expected to broaden their knowledge of musical history through active listening and analysis.
Homework is set each week and takes the form of performance practice, composing and listening tasks.
For students considering taking GCSE Music, an overview of the AQA course can be found as a Powerpoint presentation here.
